My Professional Journey
A Career Rooted in SEND
My specialist SEND journey began in 2001 when I became an Autism Outreach Worker within the local authority. Alongside this role, my Education degree was adapted to complement my work, giving me the valuable opportunity to connect educational theory with practical, person-centred support for children, families and schools.
After ten rewarding years in this role, I was seconded to the Special Educational Needs Inclusion Team. This opportunity enabled me to further develop my professional practice, deepen my theoretical understanding and support children and young people across a broader spectrum of needs.
I later completed my PGCE and spent ten years teaching within Primary Education. Throughout this time, I remained committed to nurturing confidence, exploring flexible and inclusive approaches to learning and supporting children to grow both academically and emotionally.
I also spent two years working as a Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo). In this role, I worked closely with children, families, school staff and other professionals to develop personalised provision and ensure that individual needs were understood and supported.
